IMG_3729
This week we caught up with the incredible lovely gal Searon Mc Gratton “Make up extraordinaire to the Stars”( although she’d probably cringe reading that) . Being both exceptionally talented and incredible humble,  with star credits including Colin Farrel, Mariah Carey and Duffy, this make-up talent has done it all. If Searon is not jetting off to some exotic location, you can find her working on the latest magazine cover or tv commercial. So you can imagine how delighted we were that she was available to take an hour out of her busy life to have a little chat with us. Low and behold here’s an exclusive glimpse into the exciting life of Searon McGratton! Check out some of her campaigns below! 1.WE RECENTLY DID A SPREAD ON THE GROWING MALE COSMETICS MARKET, WHAT ARE YOUR TIPS FOR GUYS WHO WANT TO LOOK FRESH IN THE MORNING? It’s all about the basic essentials, Cleansing, Exfoliating and Moisturizing! Guy’s skin tends to be quite oily. To deal with this I’d recommend “Facial Fuel” an Exfoliator in the men’s skincare range by Kiehls  which is fantastic! Regarding moisturizers, a product containing SPF is important for during the day. A good choice would be from the “La Roche Pose” brand. I often use “La Roche-Posay Effaclar Mat” during shoots as its’s great for minimizing pores and providing an anti-shine effect which is good for the camera! If you want to do a little touch up, the “YSL Touch Éclat” is very light and perfect for under your eyes and around the side of your nose. “Clarins Beauty Flash Balm” provides an instant wake up look in the morning! Probably when I moved to New York, a few weeks beforehand I did a shoot for Esquire Magazine in Dublin and it required a whole team to come over from NY. I remember, I got chatting to the producer on the shoot and she was like “OMG hunny you should move to NY” and I was like “Really?” and she was like “Why Not?!” Flash forward five weeks later and off I went for ten years. 3. ANY FUNNY CELEBRITY ANECDOTES? Discretion is a very important part of my business, so no celeb anecdotes today! 4. ANY SKINCARE ADVICE PRE AND POST MAKEUP? Cleanse, Exfoliate and Moisturize with SPF for sure! It’s important to have a really clean blank canvas when you’re going to  start doing makeup. Make sure that there’s  there’s no residue of yesterday’s makeup or mascara or anything like that.  A good product to use is the Clarisonic, this is fantastic for getting really clean skin. Finally always remember to hydrate,  lot’s of water is paramount for your skin. IMG_3711 5. WHO ARE YOU INSPIRED BY? Definitely the makeup artists I worked with in New York, they really were at the top of their game. I’m get my inspiration from different cultures when I go travelling. People watching in any environment is a great contributor to my creative process. I tend to absorb interesting qualities which I can use in my work later on. I could literally sit all day people watching! 6. CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT UPCOMING MAKEUP TRENDS AND YESTERDAY’S NEWS? Yesterdays news is definitely contouring, it’s all about non-touring now. Think naturally glowing and fresh, dewy skin. Contouring, while it has been around for years, was definitely popularized by Kim Kardashian. But she’s not even doing it now. Makeup trends for Autumn/Winter 2016 include glitter and sequins which have been largely featured by Burberry for the upcoming season.  Bare eyes with a dark lip is very popular and lot’s of grape , berry , burgundy toned lips are looking fantastic. Fluorescent make up is very popular too! Other trends include Colored Lashes particularly in turquoise and pink. Urban Decay and YSL have a great range! Another honorable mention is Greige which is a combination of gray and beige, this color looks great in lipstick and nail-polish. IMG_3712 7. ANY UP AND COMING MAKE UP TALENT YOU CAN TELL US ABOUT? My assistant Andrea Whalen, she specializes in Fantasy Make-up and she’s just fantastic! Check out Andrea’s Instagram MissAndDreaMakeup HERE 8. HOW DOES YOUR EXPERIENCE WORKING IN NYC DIFFER FROM DUBLIN? NYC is the fashion capital of the world.  Dublin is smaller and a little more chilled. There are definitely pros and cons for both. Opportunities in NY are crazy with regular travel to exotic locations in the Winter and there’s  a lot of competition to get jobs.  But on the flip side, Dublin is thriving. The talent pool here is just amazing as well as the international talent flooding in. Now that the recession has slowed down, budgets are bigger and as a result, there are a lot of exciting projects happening at the moment. It’s great to be back. 9. WHAT’S YOUR THOUGHT PROCESS WHEN PUTTING TOGETHER A LOOK? There are many stages to consider. It really depends whether it’s going to be for a shoot, a commercial or a magazine spread. The final look is definitely a collaboration with the entire team and every process is unique. When considering a look, you need to look at numerous factors such as the individual, the hair and the clothes. Looking at the big picture you need to determine if the individual has a particular style that they want to maintain. It’s also important to account for skin type and face shape too as these are very important when piecing together the final look. 10. ANY EXCITING PROJECTS COMING UP? Yes a big mixture! Over the next few months I have  a couple of TV commercials, some  jobs travelling away, some editorials and lots of advertising! Check out Searon’s official website here @ www.searonmcgrattan.com
