5 Tips: How to get a zen bedroom

Your bedroom is your place of rest and relaxation, there’s nothing worse than being unable to get sufficient sleep in your own bedroom. In order to get a good night’s sleep, we need to do the impossible, we need to not interact with our phones or laptops an hour prior to sleeping, just unwind with a good book. But it’s difficult to unwind in a room that is cluttered, stuffy, messy and downright drab, but fear not, we are here to help. We have 5 tips to help you achieve a more zen bedroom.

Lighting

It is essential to have pleasent mood lighting if you’re hoping to achieve a more relaxing atmosphere in your bedroom. Candles, fairy lights, dimmer switches and lamps help achieve optiumim mood lighting so you can unwind in your own private sanctuary. An affordable way to achieve mood lighting in your room is to grab a 100 pack of Ikea tea lights for only €2!

Scents

The sense of smell is the sense with the strongest links to our emotions. Certain scents can trigger emotions and memories long forgotten, so if you want to help maintain a relaxing atmosphere in your bedroom invest a bit of money in some diffusers and scented candles. Its imperative that you avoid overbearing/false chemical smelling candles and diffusers, it might cost a bit more, but it will definitely be worth it!

 Plants

Inject life into your room with some house plants, they’re decorative and their restorative value will help make your room a sanctuary. Plants release oxygen into the atmosphere, they filter pollutants and add life to any dwelling. Even low maintenance plant life will vastly improve the air quality in ones bedroom.

Decor

Fill your room with things that mean something to you; books, ornaments, pictures, trinkets, basically whatever you want. Just make sure you don’t allow clutter to build up, especially under your bed, this can allow dust to gather, mildew to form and impact on the rooms air quality.

Bed

In your lifetime, you will spend on average, a staggering 25 years in bed (some would say this is not enough!). Since so much of your life is spent in bed, then it is crucial that you ensure it is time well spent! Ditch bedsheets made with synthetic fibres, opt for more soft and luxurious fabrics, such as brushed cotton. If you can afford it, a memory foam mattress will literally change your life!
