Chanel’s Spring Haute Couture Show

Picture the scene: a minimalist, tranquil garden complete with lush greenery, a slatted wood pavilion and a serene blue sky. Relaxing isn’t it? And certainly not quite the setting you would usually expect for Chanel’s Spring 2016 Haute Couture collection. Nevertheless, Karl Lagerfeld did indeed transform the Grand Palais for his eco-conscious high-fashion event, promoting a new breed of fashion-mindfulness. Contemporary technology did, however, make a bold feature in the faux garden as a number of ensembles included a loosely tied belt bag, intended for an iPhone or tablet. As for the designs themselves, one prominent silhouette consisted of long skirt, cut mid-shin, and worn with a rounded sleeve jacket. The wedding gown – a blush, textured floral column dress – was beautifully adorned with a tufted hoodie, all made from ‘wild cotton’. Finally, the evening looks dazzled. Translucent lamé capes, flecked with sparkling gold hues, floated ethereally behind the models. Eye makeup was reserved to two elongated strokes of eyeliner framing the eye, and we were first introduced to the new ‘Chanel Croissant’ hairstyle. Many familiar faces were of course there. Models such as Gigi and Bella Hadid, as well as Kendall Jenner, took to the runway whilst Cara Delevingne took the ‘outdoor’ theme a little too literally, bringing her adorable dog along to join her on the FROW. Lucky pooch. We also saw male model and muse, Baptiste Giabiconi, take centre stage in a golden tweed jacket and patchwork trousers. Rest easy, on Karl Lagefeld we can always rely for something new, inventive and utterly beautiful in the world of haute couture. Cover image via Getty
