Vampire Weekend are synonymous with their appreciation of the semiotics associated with the preppy look, sure the guys themselves went to prep schools! The videos utilises preppy chic and the apparent fragile nature of the American Dream to produce a wonderfully fashionable music videos. Bad Romance – Lady Gaga 2009 This otherworldly music video is a dystopian future filled with high fashion creatures. Some argue that this video started the trend of people dying their hair pale pastel blonde. The video features a whole host of fashion fancies that are to die for! alexander McQueen was the man behind all these fabulous ensembles. Bad Girls – M.I.A 2012 This video is all about Middle Eastern high fashion drag racing, (now that’s a term I bet you never heard before). M.I.A and her entourage use hijab inspired looks mixed with London street style. M.I.A and the other women in this video subvert the hijab and use it as a fashion statemnet. Cool – Gwen Stefani 2005 Gwen Stefani’s hair in this video is literally to die for! The elegant house on lake Garda, the refined timeless fashions and nautical swimsuits are all absolutely fabulous. Gwen sports a whole host of different sun dresses in this video, which look stunning agains the Italian backdrop. We Found Love – Rihanna feat Calvin Harris 2011 The harsh realism of the video coupled with street fashion gives this music video a definite edge. This video is filled with vintage double denims, american flag print negligee and a whole host of the treats for the eye. Runway – Kanye West 2010 This spectacular music video is the quintessential epitome of high fashion meets music. The video incorporates fashion, ballet, catwalks and aristocratic dinner etiquette. The music video feature film is a staggering 34 minutes long, but is well worth the watch for the fashion and cinematography. Paparazzi – Lady Gaga 2009 One of Gaga’s break through hits, the video for Paparazzi is austentacious, gaudy, opulent and downright fantastic! Every scene and ensemble in this music video offers the audience a plethora of eye catching constructions. Only Gaga could make being wheelchair bound following an accident look so glamourous. National Anthem – Lana Del Rey 2012 Queen of quintessential Americana, Lana Del Rey channels her inner Jackie-O in this nostalgic music video masterpiece.
