Florals: Are You a Man or a Mouse?
Gone are the days when floral print was only a womenswear staple. If you haven’t seen the amount of floral going through menswear recently then I need to have a word with you. You can see floral on everything from a three piece suit to a Lanzarote appropriate racer back (shudder). However, many people think floral is an impossible thing to style. It is a lot easier than you might think. When you think of the term ‘floral’, what comes to mind? Is it Miami? Because that’s the response I mostly got when I asked that question. Just scratch Miami. The size and volume of your floral print is what you should be thinking of. Bright shades always look so fun, but subtlety is your friend here. Think of an Irish garden in the Spring – Not Kanye’s obtrusive wedding wall. Remember, less is ALWAYS more. Although there has been a rise in monochrome florals, I feel like if you want to wear bright print, you need to pair it with more neutral tones. So those vibrant botanical trousers you have thinking about may seem tricky to pull off, but once you pair them with a muted block shade then you will be laughing. Most muted block colours can tame even the wildest of prints. If bright trousers and heavily printed shirts are too much for you then the finer details can make your look. I am a big fan of the finer details so don’t mock those pocket squares, socks or even some t-shirt linings. These thing are great at giving your outfit that subtle dose of floral print – you don’t want to turn your Instagram into a national garden after all. In the world of fashion, perceptions can change in a heartbeat. Traditional ideas are always challenged and the new modern man is eager to embrace fresh concepts. Floral is the perfect case in point. If you haven’t been living under a rock, you have seen that floral print has come a long way. Don’t be afraid to try it. Ps. Catch more of Mark Anthony’s stuff over on markmystyle.com
