World Beauty Series: French Beauty Secrets
When we think of French womens’ beauty and style, a few words spring to mind; effortless, minimalist, alluring, understatedly cool, natural, nonchalant, elegant.. The list could go on.. They regard their natural self as their most enthralling beauty quality and don’t focus on traditional beauty standards, rather accepting imperfections and taking on a less-is-more approach. This is evident is some of our favourite French beauties like Marion Cotillard, Lea Seydoux and Adele Exarchopoulos, all of whom ooze a special ‘je ne sais quoi’ quality about them! Women worldwide are captivated by how the French do style and beauty, so take a look below at some French Beauty Secrets! The famous French pharmacies are packed with amazing French skincare ranges and own pharmacy brands that are unfortunately not sold overseas (if you’re holidaying or visiting France, a visit to a traditional French pharmacy is definitely a must!). However, France haven’t kept all of their skincare gems from us and thankfully we and the rest of the world do have easy access to quality French skin care brands like La Roche-Posay and Avene, Nuxe etc., which are worth trying out! French women ensure that they cleanse and moisturise morning and night without fail. It’s all about looking after the base and ensuring that the skin is fresh and healthy! Micellar water is a skin care trend that has been brought to the forefront in the last year, however this product type has been championed by the French for a long time! Micellar water gently cleans off makeup un-abrasively. Try Avene Micellar Lotion Cleanser and Makeup Remover or if you prefer cleansing cream, try La Roche-Posay cleansing milk. Moisturising is absolutely essential! Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre Nourishing Moisturiser is a french skin care brand that’s a favourite amongst many beauty bloggers and lovers! Additionally, it’s a really convenient product that is multi-purpose, and can also be used as a cleanser and to treat cuts or problem areas of the skin. Two words: Dry Shampoo. French women don’t wash their hair everyday and like their hair to be as natural and effortless as possible, all the while having locks that are full of texture. Washing your hair everyday strips the natural oils from your hair so shouldn’t be done. Instead, spritz some dry shampoo into your hair at night before bed so that you wake up with non-greasy hair that’s full of texture! For even more understated coolness to your hair, air dry it! Base: Rather than contouring, highlighting parts of the face is more favoured. French women like to keep there skin as natural looking and clean as possible, so brightening areas of the face is the way to go. Have a look at our piece on ‘strobing‘ which will help you achieve this gorgeous dewy look. Lips: Red lips are a must and certainly identify a Parisien woman. MAC’s cult classic Ruby Woo is the perfect shade. Crimson lips are seen as a fashion accessory so strip back the rest of your look by not wearing any other makeup with it and a minimalistic outfit. Eyes: For the eyes, French women favour a more low maintenance look so when wearing a smokey eye, you want it to look perfectly imperfect. This messy smoky eye oozes allure and is understatedly cooled. To achieve this use a dark creamy eyeshadow or even a soft black kohl pencil all over the lid and blend with your finger.
