How to Strategically Air Dry Your Hair
It’s Summer time and the last thing we want to do is blast a sweltering hot hair dryer at our hair. There are some helpful hacks that make blowdrying easier in the heat, however, why not embrace air-dried hair?! Many people assume that wil air dried hair, you can’t achieve shiny, healthy, voluminous hair. Well, let me tell you- these tips and tricks will make your hair’s natural texture look its best. Besides the convenience of air drying, it’s so good to give your hair a break from all that heat which is so damaging to our hair! We all know that air drying your hair is popularly advocated amongst French women. Paris-based editorial makeup artist Violette explains to Vogue that French women “like to shampoo our hair, air dry, then wait a day. When you wash your hair the first day, you don’t know what to do with it. The second day, it looks much better”. So with this in mind, look below for tips on how to strategically air dry your hair so that it looks effortlessly, Parisien chic! You need to make sure that you use the correct conditioner to achieve a chic air dried look. For those with frizzy hair, tame it by using a suitable conditioner such as Aussie 3 minute miracle conditioner. If you have curly hair, it’s best to use a curl enhancing product like Umberto Giannini Bouncy Curl Enhancing Conditioner. This includes wrapping your hair in a towel too! Using a towel to dry your hair actually roughs up the hair cuticles and causes hair to frizz. Many stylists suggest that you use something that’s of a soft cotton material to squeeze the water out from your hair. Detangle your locks using a wide tooth comb or a tangle teaser which may be easier for those with thick or long hair. Ensure that you choose a leave-in product that suits your hair type and needs. For those with straighter or slightly wavy hair, opt for Kérastase Elixir Ultime. This is a lightweight oil that makes your hair incredibly soft and shiny. If you have curly hair use a product like Bumble and Bumble Curl Conscious Defining Crème. Ensure that you use the right amount of product and spread it evenly on your hair with your fingers. If you want voluminous hair, use a volumising mousse like L’Oréal Studio Line Volume Mousse. Depending on the look you want to achieve, style your hair accordingly. And by style, we mean either comb your hair again for a sleek look or scrunch your hair using your fingers for tousled waves and volume. Another great way to achieve effortless tousled waves is to loosely braid your hair or twist your hair as you would a bun, and use a soft scrunchy (to eliminate hair kink) to hold it loosely on your head, when you let your hair down after it’s dried, it will be naturally wavy. If there’s a part of your hair that sticks up or out, or bothers you i.e., a cow’s lick, simply use a bobbly pin or hair clip, to hold that piece of hair down in place, so that it will dry in that position. This step is not compulsory, but does add that extra bit of oomph to your hair, whether it be shine or textured volume! To give your hair, extra healthy moisture or shine, use an argan oil product like Organix Morocccan Argan Oil Weightless Healing Oil Spray to soothe the hair. Or if you’re in need of more texture or volume, a spritz of dry texturising spray like V05 Give Me Texture Dry Texturising Spray, should do the job!
