Makeup mistakes to AVOID
Makeup can be our best and worst friend. The former can hide signs of ageing and make us look more youthful and the best version of ourselves! In the latter form, it can sabotage our best interests and instead age us. There are common makeup mistakes that many of us are unfortunately privy to, that we need to change! Scroll below for a list of the most common makeup mishaps and tips on how to rectify them! #1. Not wearing foundation Skin imperfections and pigmentation can put years on you, so don’t shy away from foundation. We don’t mean caking your skin in a hefty layer of the stuff, but instead applying a healthy layer of moisturising, radiance-boosting foundation. Foundation protects the skin but also evens out the skin tone. An great foundation for more mature skin is: No7 Lift & Luminate Foundation. Click here for other radiance boosting foundations that are equally, as amazing. #2. Brow neglect Do not neglect your brows! Our eyebrows naturally thin as we age and our eyebrows frame our face, so you best tend to them. Ensure that you fill them in using the right shade. You don’t want a harsh looking scouse brow, so don’t reach for a pencil or pomade, instead use an eyeshadow for a subtle and soft effect. Also, when picking your shade, steer clear of those with reddish undertones as they will make your brows look unnatural. Laura Mercier’s Brow Powder Duo will help you achieve naturally shaped, full brows. #3. Contouring It seems that nowadays all we hear about is “contouring”, however as you get older, its a beauty trend that should be skipped if you want to look younger. As we age, our face loses it’s fullness, which in turn makes us look older. So instead of contouring, opt for a little bronzer where the sun would naturally hit your face, for a bit of warmth. We love Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bromzing Powder as it demi-matte, meaning there’s a teeniest bit of shimmer in it ensuring you won’t look super matte and caked. #4. Heavy eye makeup Step away from the dark eyeshadows and black kohl eyeliner. Leave this to the young folk. Heavy eye makeup and harsh liner can make the eyes appear smaller and sunken in. Instead, lose the black kohl and opt for more natural colours to keep the eyes looking youthful and fresh. #5. Applying blusher in the wrong place Blushers with a brownish undertone are not your friend. They can make the skin appear dull, instead you should opt for a natural looking blush that gives your cheeks that “just pinched” effect. There are no rules against what type of blusher to use in terms of powder vs creams, just ensure you pick the right shade. If you have lighter skin, go for a rose or peach toned blusher and if you’ve darker skin, rich colours like apricot or red will look amazing. Also, ensure that you place the blusher on the top of your cheekbones, not below as this can drag your face down. And on a final blusher note, blend blend blend (as always.). We love Max Factor Miracle Touch Creamy Blusher. #6. Using the wrong lip colour As we get older our lips thin. This loss of oomph isn’t helped with the use of darker shaded lipstick. Dark shades will make your lips look thinner. Instead, ditch the dark tones, and go for lighter, more neutral lip colours and stains with a bit of sheen and sheerness. We’re not saying to forgo the bright colours however, instead embrace them, just ditch the more dark colours.
