Makeup Skills Every Woman Should Know
Makeup can go from being your best friend to foe in a flash.. Most of us have a love/hate relationship with our liquid eyeliner.. Trying to perfect the cat eye but ending up with panda eyes, anyone?! Casually contouring and ending up with harsh streaky lines.. The struggle is real! However, these makeup techniques are ones that every woman should master. We’re not asking you to go full scale Kardashian, just knowing how to strategically apply your makeup, is all it takes to be skilled at applying makeup. And, remember, practice makes perfect. Take a look below at a number of makeup skills that every woman should be able to learn and master. We’ve talked at length about the power of the brow. While big Cara-esque brows may not be for everyone, a little brow filling never hurt anyone. Brows are so powerful that they frame the face. All that’s required is the right shade of pencil, powder, or pomade, concealer and an angled brush. Many people think that acne only happens when you’re a teenager, unfortunately, that’s not the case! Adult acne is a thing, so knowing how to handle the situation is key. Take a look at this video by makeup artist Lisa Eldridge who shows how to strategically cover blemishes. Shaky hands and twitching eyes are barriers that effectively destroy our eyeliner look. You don’t necessarily have to master the cat-eye, however it wouldn’t hurt. If you want to master a cat-eye flick, liquid eyeliner or gel eyeliner is best. Practice really makes perfect and using the right type of eyeliner and tools, are key. Applying foundation so that it looks natural is crucial! There’s nothing worse than caked on, streaky foundation. How you apply you foundation is all bout the technique you use, and this technique boils down to one word: BLEND. There are a number of tools, such as beauty blenders, buffing brushes and stippling brushes, so with that said, there is really no excuse to not have perfectly blended natural looking skin. Bronzer and/or blusher are your friends (when used properly!). These basic products add warmth and colour to your face. It’s important to know that less is more, so that your cheeks have a subtle glow or gentle flush to them. Mastering the art of how to use them properly, will have you looking healthy and youthful. Contouring, the signature look of the Kardashians. As we mentioned above, we don’t expect you to go Kardashian on us, but contouring is here to stay. Subtle contouring that doesn’t look like you’ve contoured, but adds shadow and light to the face, we wholly agree! There are many different types of contouring products on the market from powder to creamy formulas, so for those who haven’t given it a go- do. You will not be disappointed. Don’t go overboard with the lipliner, and by overboard we mean don’t over line your lips to excess. Lining too far outside the edge of your lips and all the way around is just not ok! Instead, line ever so slightly over your lips in certain sections (over the cupids bow and under the middle of your bottom lip), will make your lips look naturally more pouty. And, don’t forget to fill your lips with lipliner to ensure that your lippie stays put. They say strobing is the new contouring?! Knowing how to strobe (aka highlight) effectively and in the right places will really up your makeup game. Know that less is more so that you don’t end up looking like your sweaty and oily.
