Met Gala Beauty Queens
Bold, futuristic, metallic aliens and techy looks filled the Met Gala 2016 red carpet. This year the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s fashion exhibit was sponsored by Apple. The theme was “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology”, appropriately fitting to the fash-tech combo. As always, the celeb elite’s efforts did not disappoint, at least not on the beauty front.
So Fetch!Rachel McAdams’ met gala look was fierce, from her on-trend tousled bob to her bold dark wine lip everything about this look demanded attention. The original mean girl wore minimal eye makeup, with just a touch of blended liner on her bottom eye which made her dark lip pop even further, a look that would make even Regina George envious.
Bad BloodTaylor Swift has turned goth, almost overnight the preppy pop star has grown up. Her new edgy, bleached blonde bob teamed with this dark, gothic lip, light brows and minimal eye makeup create the ultimate good girl gone goth look. To own this dramatic look, follow Taylor’s example and use minimal eye makeup. Heavy eye makeup mixed with a dark lip can often look over-done. For those of us that can’t live without a splash of eye makeup, avoid a smokey eye, opting instead for winged eyeliner.
King KylieKylie Jenner also opted for a bob, although her approach was much more sleek and sophisticated than the tousled bobs before her. The youngest Jenner played it safe choosing neutral colour palettes for both her smokey eye and lip. Kylie contours with the best of them, no Keeping Up With The Kardashians star’s look would be complete without their signature makeup staple, after all the girls did put it on the map.
Copy CatElle Fanning channels Beyoncé with this Met Gala 2015 style steal. Beyoncé’s hairstyle stole the show at last year’s Met Gala, Elle has updated the look by going it straight as opposed to Beyoncé’s curly take on the high ponytail. We adore how the actress has made the look all about the pony by wearing minimal makeup.
Wet Hair, Don’t Care!Kimmy K nailed the tech theme with her futuristic beauty regime. Instead of her usual strong brow, Mrs. West wore a light blonde eyebrow which created a more modern aesthetic. The reality star chose neutral tones for her eyes and lips and completed the look with slicked back, liquid hair. Kim makes even wet hair look glam, we have a feeling the look will catch on this summer having also been featured on the Spring/Summer catwalks of Kenzo.
Alien InvasionCiara rocked chrome finger waves with a smokey eye. The metallic look was offset with a nude lip ensuring all focus was on her silver do. The futuristic look isn’t wearable for most of us in everyday life, however if you do dare to dye, follow Ciara’s shining example and play it safe on the makeup front.
