Skin SOS for after the festivities

It is the season to be jolly, however this jolliness can get tainted by bouts of bad skin which inevitably happen to most of us during the holiday season. Gorging sessions on rich foods like cheese and chocolate alongside excessive amounts of alcohol is kind of allowed during this time, but it’s not exactly great. Dry skin, blemishes and under-eye bags can be more prominent during the silly season, so with that said, scroll below for some skin SOS tips for after the festivities. Your skin will get the much needed TLC it craves and deserves.

As the saying goes, ‘you are what you eat’, and this is so true in terms of our skin. Most skin woes are as a result to eating unhealthy food and drinking too much alcohol. Instead of reaching for your usual morning coffee fix, grab a lemon tea which will help flush toxins from the body.

Fish oils. Not exactly the most appetising of thoughts but if your skin is dry and has the tendency to flair-up, fish oils are the answer. They ensure that you’ve got a store of fatty acids that will lock in and restore lost moisture from within. Apart from its moisture restoration capabilities, fish oils are also known to be great for your hair and nails, ensuring they look glossy.

The best way to soothe puffiness is to place some ice on your skin. The flash of cold will reduce swelling and also encourage circulation. Be warned though that you shouldn’t use ice on your skin in the same place for over one minute, instead run the ice over your skin in short bursts. Other advantages of using ice, is that it can help to take a swollen spot down and for reducing eye bags and making them look less tired.

Attacking spots is not recommended as it can leave scars and skin discolouration. Instead like the previous steps, you want to soothe the skin back to normality. If a spot has formed instead of going for a squeeze, grab a chamomile teabag, mix with boiling water, wait to cool and then chill it in the fridge. Once the teabag has been chilled, place it on spots and leave it for 10-15 minutes. Repeat morning and night until the spot has gone. Or, if all else fails, disguise the remnants of the party season with these makeup tips to make you look fresh (especially when you’re hungover!).
