The real talk guide to spot-free skin
Not taking your makeup off before bed is a cardinal sin, in terms of skin care. This is one of the more obvious mishaps that can attribute to bad skin, however, there are a number of other sneaky mishaps we do, that we are damaging our skin without even realising. Scroll below for a list of things we all unwittingly carry out, which is causing damage to our skin.
#1. Touching our skinKeep your hands down! We’re all guilty of touching or picking at our face, but this is causing us to move dirt and germs around our face, especially of our hands are unclean. All that touching and picking is causing us spots and blemishes. Similarly, our phones or sunglasses can be the main culprits of unintentional skin damage. When was the last time you wiped down your phone?
#2. Attacking our skinExfoliators are great and necessary when used properly. If you have pimples or blemishes on your skin, steer away from an exfoliator, as this will only aggravate your skin even more. Instead, invest in a topical serum used for exfoliation like Elave Rejuvenating Cleansing Treatment, as this will allow cellular turnover rather than scrubbing your skin. And, also use clean hands instead of a cloth or sponge as your fingers will be more gentle on your skin.
#3. Not showering straight after a gym sessionYour post-gym skin-care regimen is so important! Not washing your skin immediately after a sweaty workout session means that you’re running the risk of a breakout. You don’t want stale sweat sitting on your skin for longer than it should. If you haven’t the time to do a proper cleanse, simply use micellar water like Bioderma Sensibio H20 and cotton pads to wipe off sweat and bacteria.
#4. Dirty makeup brushesIt’s so easy to forego washing your makeup brushes. It isn’t exactly one of the most riveting tasks, in fairness. However, getting into a routine of cleaning your brushed regularly will make all the difference to your skin. Makeup brushes and sponges harbour bacteria which can attribute to bad breakouts, so quickly rinsing them after every use is definitely recommended. Also, invest in a brush cleaning spray which can cuts through the stale makeup that your brushes have harboured.
#5. Going overboard with the lotions and potionsMany of us have a habit of going overboard and applying a cocktail of products, which can affect and irritate our skin. It’s important to take a look at your skin and see what skin-type umbrella you fall under. Do you have dry, oily or combination skin? Ensure that your tailor your skin care regimen to suit you, and don’t just throw on a mix of different creams and hope for the best. It’s all about quality, not quantity!
#6. Piping hot water face washWashing your face with piping hot water is a big no no. It can dry out your skin, just like how the sun does. Instead, gently was with warm water to ensure skin isn’t drained of it’s moisture.
